Delete Database Option

When I attempt to delete a database, there is a checkbox
saying - "Delete backup and restore history for the
database".
What does this option means ? Should I select it ?

When ever you perform a Backup or restore of database or transaction log a
entry will put into
MSDB..backupfile, msdb..backupmediafamily,msdb..backupmediaset
tables,msdb..restorefile,msdb..restorefilegroup,ms db..restorehistory.
These are nothing but history of your backup and restore operation. So when
when you select this option
automatically all the history will be deleted form MSDB database for the
above tables.
Should I select it ?
Since you do not require even the database, you can select this option.

If I delete the database maintenance plan, will the jobs
(Like DB Backup Job) be deleted automatically ?

Delete backup from backup device?

I dump my databases to backup devices each night.

However would like to purge old backups - say older than a week - from the device.

Is it a case that I have to drop and re-create the devices every 7 days or can SQL do this for me?

I have seen the RETAINDAYS claus but it applies to tape backups only?

If you go to "Database Maintenance Plans" and follow the wizard for a new maintenance plan, you can set up an automatic backup, that will create full backups that are datetime stamped (on the file name) in the directory of your choosing. You can configure it to delete backups that are older than X weeks as well.sql

Does the maintenance plan generate an error log? It should be in %Install Path%\MSSQL\LOGS. Look through there. As I recall, if there is any problem anywhere in the process of making the backup, the purge old files process will not work (this is by design).

I orginally set up a backup to a file. I later was
instructed in setting up a backup device. I now have two
backups running for the same database. How do I delete
the original backup. It does not show on the "Backup"
list.You want to delete the original backup file, right?
If that's teh case, find the file in the file system (e.g.
using Windows Explorer) and delete it.

Deleeing database

I'm trying to delete database which I restored to this PC before from a
full backup. This database had publication and when I try to delete
database I get errors saying that it is used for replication.
But the problem is that I can't delete publication either because I get
error "could not find stored procedure..."

Hello,
We met a problem when we want to backup our database to a shared disk, the
error message is as following,
{Delayed Write Failed} Windows was unable to save all the data for the file
\Device\MysharedDriver. The data has been lost. This error may be caused by
a failure of your computer hardware or network connection. Please try to
save this file elsewhere.
But we succeeded with backup the pubs database to the same folder in the
shared disk.
Please anyone give help.

first step:You must sure you have enough disk for your
database.
Second Step:Check the right of Sql Server's SA,how much
disk space SA can used on the shaved disk.

Define Job using SQL DMO

I have to define a new job, to take the backup automatically, at the SQL
Server 2000. on the Local Network if i login using the Machine name (Only
Default instance is installed), it works fine. But in the following scenario

it does not work -
-- If i login using IP Address of the machine on the local network.
-- If the Server is on other network on the internet.
I get the Folloing error-
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]The specified @.server_name
('192.168.100.19') does not exist.
